Bread Art Assemble equipment needed— Cookie sheet, casserole dishes, aluminum foil, shortening, bread board rolling pin. Recipe for baskets: 1/4 yeast 1/4 salt 1 1/4 water - knead 20 minutes. Roll about 1/4" thick on slightly floured bread board. Cut in 1/2" strips. Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Turn casserole dish up side down. Grease dish and foil around casserole. Braid or twist strips of dough and circle dish. Lace strips in and out over casserole. Dot with water and press weaved strips with fork to secure edges. Braid or twist 7" lengths for handles. Dot with water, press with fork to secure. Bake in 350 oven for 2 1/2 hours. Dry day or so. Paint with Varnish or laquer. For best results hang to dry (on coat hanger). Decorative Bread for inside the basket— Bake bread, or make a quick rising dough, in small pans, which can be purchased at a dime store. Bake longer than usual, dry a couple days. Paint with varnish. Let dry thoroughly between coats, depending on varnish used. Decorate top of bread with flowers and ribbon purchased at dime store for a cost of approximately 46 cents per basket. Prepare napkin from 1/4 yard purchased material (makes 4 napkins) 9 1/2 x 8 1/2 at a cost of 3c⁄4c or use any scrap material available. To prepare napkin hem or fringe by pulling threads. Place 1 1/2 C. warm water, 1 C. salt in mixing bowl. Stir one minute, add 4 C. flour knead ten minutes. to total amt—recipe intended to be a tub dry add a few more drops of water, if necessary.
