Loaf Bread - Grandma Liz
(Loaf bread is a heavier dough than
sweet bread & is not as sweet.)
Cook 2 potatoes in lots of water & use water.
1 Tablespoon salt + 4 cups water
4 Tablespoons shortening
4 Tablespoons sugar and 2 pkgs.
yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water.
Put hot potato water, shortening, salt
and sugar in large bowl, when warm
add dissolved yeast.
Add flour to make a stiff dough.
Lots of kneading makes better bread.
When dough does not stick to
fingers, lightly grease dough &
also a large pan and let
raise in a warm place with
cloth over it, till double in bulk.
Knead down & let raise again.
Knead down & put in 3 or 4
pans that have been well greased.
Let rise in pans. Bake in 350° oven
about 45 min. or till brown on all sides.

Cut strips off any yeast dough
after it has risen for the last
time & before kneading it down
and before putting it into
pans.
Drop strips into hot deep fat—
using crisco; when brown, carefully
flip it over to brown on other side.
Place on paper towel & then dip in sugar.
