``` Funny Face Cookies ½ c. raisins 2 c. sifted, enriched flour ½ tsp. cream of tartar 1 tsp. soda ½ tsp. salt 1 c. butter (& a little Crisco) 2 eggs 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. vanilla First pour hot water over the raisins and let them stand until you are ready to use them. Grease a cookie sheet. Put the sifter into a large mixing bowl. Measure the sifted flour and put it into the sifter with the cream of tartar, soda and salt. Sift them into the mixing bowl. Start the oven so it will be hot by the time you bake. Set the temperature at 375°. Measure the lard and put it into the bowl with the flour. For this next part, be sure your hands are really clean! Mix the lard and flour together with your hands. Break the eggs into the small bowl of the electric mixer or any small mixing bowl. Add the sugar and vanilla and turn on the mixer or beat with a rotary beater until the mixture is thick and lemon colored. Add the egg mixture to the flour and lard mixture, and mix very well. Shape the dough into round balls about the size of a walnut. Place them on the cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Take a glass tumbler that is flat on the bottom, and tie a piece of clean, thin cloth over the bottom of it. Then press the glass down on the ball of cookie dough. You will have a nice round cookie. Pat the raisins dry on a clean dish towel. Use them to make faces on the cookies. Bake the cookies in the oven 8 to 10 minutes—they brown very fast the last few minutes. Remove them from the cookie sheet with a spatula right away. Put them on clean paper. Hint: You can use chocolate chips or coconut for decoration. To mix: Cream lard & sugar together with mixer. Add egg & vanilla - mix well. Add sifted dry ingred. Roll in balls & flatten with glass. ```
